Multi-Nation Expert Panel Agrees On Biomarkers of Aging

For the first time, a multi-nation panel of aging experts reached a consensus to designate markers of aging, which could make aging intervention testing easier.

Participants: Physically active and healthy older adults 
Dosage: 1 gram of omega-3s (330 mg EPA plus 660 mg DHA) per day, 2,000 IU of vitamin D per day, and 30 minutes of strength training exercises three times per week

While omega-3 supplementation slows biological aging, adding vitamin D and exercise further slows biological aging.

Model: C57BL/6N mice 
Dosage: 1 g/kg carvedilol in food for one week followed by four weeks of PAGln treatment, consisting of 50 mg/kg per day by injection, and the same PAGln treatment for four weeks followed by 50 mg/kg per day of ABT263 via oral gavage for five days

Carvedilol, a blood pressure medication, and the senolytic agent ABT-263 both attenuate cellular senescence—an age-related, dysfunctional cellular state—driven by a gut bacterial metabolite in mice.

Participants: Healthy older adults 
Dosage: 4 × 5 g/day of creatine monohydrate for 5 days, followed by 1 × 5 g/day for 23 days

Creatine improves vascular health while lowering blood glucose and triglyceride levels in older adults.
